The Maysville Police Department serves and protects the citizens by maintaining law and order, preventing crime, and protecting life and property. Services are provided 20 hours per day, 7 days per week. Dispatch is coordinated through the Banks County 911 System, and back-up is provided by either the Banks or Jackson County Sheriffs Departments. Services are provided by 4 full-time employees, which include the chief, lieutenant, and 2 officers. There are 7 part time officers.

Suspect Information: Died from gunshot fired by Marshal Sims
Marshal Sims was shot and killed by the some of a man he was arresting on a warrant. He was walking to town with his six year old son when he met a father and son for whom he had warrants. As he attempted to arrest them, the son fired a rifle at him, striking him in the neck. As he fell, he was able to fire, hitting the shooter in the stomach. Marshall Sims died almost immediately, and the shooter died five days later. He was survived by his wife, son and daughter.
